Hawaiian Flag Quilts: A Legacy of Patriotism

In celebration of Hawai‘i’s 50th anniversary of statehood, the museum honors the concept of patriotism that is such an innate part of American heritage. Nowhere is this more apparent than within Hawai‘i’s Flag Quilt traditions that have become so popular in the islands. Created in the later part of the 19th century as a form of political protest, Hawaiian Flag Quilts are still being made today. Mission HousesMuseum will feature its own historic collection of Hawaiian Flag Quilts along with modern and contemporary works on special loan for the exhibition.
