The Second Company of missionaries from the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions left from New Haven, CT, on November 20, 1822, and arrived in Honolulu on April 27, 1823. The company became known for their work in education and collaboration on translating the Bible into ‘ōlelo Hawai‘i, as well as establishing the mission on Maui.

Members of the Second Company were: Rev. Artemas and Mrs. Elizabeth Bishop, Dr. Abraham and Mrs. Jemima Blatchely, Mr. Levi Chamberlain, Mr. James and Mrs. Louisa Ely, Mr. Joseph and Mrs. Martha Goodrich, Rev. William and Mrs. Clarissa Richards, Rev. Charles and Mrs. Harriet Steward, and Miss Betsey Stockton.

They were accompanied by four men from the Foreign Mission School at Cornwall, CT: Stephen Pupuhi, William Kamahoula, Richard Kalaioulu, and Kupeli‘i.

Join us October 17-23, 2022, to walk in the footsteps of the Second Company.
