Mark your calendar now and join Hawaiian Mission Houses for this year’s Huaka‘i, held virtually on September 26, 2020!
You are invited to Hawaiian Mission Houses Historic Site and Archives annual fundraising event, Huaka’i, held virtually this year!
In past years our Huaka‘i gala event has been a fun and exciting time for Hawaiian Mission Houses ‘ohana to gather, enjoy wonderful music and entertainment, and raise funds for our school programs. Because of Huaka‘i patrons like you, last year Hawaiian Mission Houses:
- Welcomed over 5,000 school children to its site for the only place-based 19th century educational field trip on Oahu. Over two-thirds of these students were from underserved schools that were only able to attend because we could offer scholarships.
- Made its extensive archives and library, including the world’s largest collection of books written in ‘ōlelo Hawai‘i, available digitally to students and educators world-wide.
- Preserved its three historic houses—the Frame House (1821), the Chamberlain House (1831), and the Printing Office (1841)—for students in generations to come to enjoy.
This year Hawaiian Mission Houses’ education programs are moving to virtual platforms. Your Huaka‘i table and ticket purchase supports Hawaiian Mission Houses and its education programming, for schools on Oahu and now on the neighbor islands and the continent.
Join us on September 26, 2020, for a Huaka‘i that keeps the fun and connection from past years while adapting to our present social distancing guidelines. Dinner comes to you in your home, as does beautiful Hawaiian music from Puamana, a History Theatre performance, and our online auction. For details, see the attached, “Huaka’i: Here’s How it Works.”
We look forward to sharing with you as we celebrate our 200-year journey and launch the next century of education!
